Three years back when Pushpa 1 hit the screens, not many could predict the kind of impact it would have on Indian cinema. The film about the rise of a gutsy nobody to the top echelons of a smuggling syndicate found resonance across the country. Among its many box-office achievements, Pushpa also made history by making Allu Arjun the first male Telugu actor to receive a National Award for Best Actor. In fact, in an interview on Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Unstoppable with NBK, Allu Arjun spoke about how it was very distressing to not see a single male Telugu actor’s name in the Best Actor list, and Pushpa’s role in making history. Finally, the journey that started in December 2021 will come full circle this December as Pushpa 2: The Rule has been hit theatres on Thursday.

However, he faces opposition from SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat (Fahadh Faasil). Despite the challenges, Pushpa Raj unexpectedly expands his red sandalwood smuggling empire in Chittoor district, influencing Andhra Pradesh politics. How does Pushpa confront SP Shekhawat? “Pushpa 2: The Rule,” made with an estimated budget of ₹400–₹500 crore, achieved an impressive pre-release business of ₹1,065 crore. The film’s theatrical rights were sold for ₹640 crore, while non-theatrical rights fetched ₹425 crore. Additionally, over 32 lakh tickets were sold in advance, generating ₹106 crore in pre-sales. On its opening day, the movie earned ₹294 crore, followed by ₹449 crore on the second day. Within just three days of its theatrical release, “Pushpa 2” collected a staggering ₹621 crore gross worldwide.

Theatrical Release
Pushpa: The Rule was theatrically released on 5 December 2024 in standard, IMAX, 4DX, D-Box and ICE formats. Apart from the original Telugu language, it was released in the Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali and Malayalam languages. A 3D version of the film was initially scheduled to be released on the same day, however, the shows were postponed to 13 December.
